The People Behind Smartutor
Built by teachers. Designed for children. Delivered with structure.
Hi, I'm Jon Coleman - founder of Smartutor and a primary school teacher with a decade of experience, the majority of which has been spent teaching Year 6.
I've spent years watching bright, capable children work incredibly hard in the classroom - making real progress, building genuine understanding - only to arrive home to random worksheets and disconnected tutoring sessions that undid much of that good work. Not because parents weren't trying. They were trying everything. But nothing available gave children the one thing they actually needed - structure.
Every year I saw the same pattern. Children who were confident in the classroom becoming anxious as SATs approached. Not because they weren't capable, but because nothing at home had properly backed up what they'd learned at school. The research is clear - consistent, structured practice at home makes an enormous difference to a child's progress and confidence.
So I built Smartutor. Every worksheet, every topic, every week of the 28-week programme has been designed with one purpose: to give every child a clear, structured path that builds week on week and leaves nothing to chance.
"Because your child deserves more than random. They deserve a plan."

Our Story
What We Believe
The principles behind every decision we make at Smartutor
Structure Matters
Random practice produces random results. Every element of the Smartutor programme is carefully sequenced so that each week builds on the last. Nothing is left to chance and nothing is missed. Every worksheet is anchored in reality, featuring questions drawn directly from past SATs papers and 11+ exams—so pupils aren’t just practising, they’re preparing with purpose.
Confidence is everything
Our programme isn’t just about getting the right answers – it’s about building quiet confidence through proper preparation. We design each worksheet to feel achievable, so children feel motivated, not overwhelmed. Smartutor also rewards effort and progress, celebrating small victories to inspire a love of learning and help children believe in themselves.
Workbooks not screens
Children will be able to use their workbooks with confidence, showing their working clearly - an important part of maths and exam success. This practical approach reflects the real exam experience, helping children develop the focus and skills they need for SATs and 11+ tests. Space for working; space for thinking. Real work, real progress.
